Brain Gym Exercises

If you have not heard of Brain Gym, I suggest you look into it a bit more. These are simple activities that a client does that helps improve learning. They are also great tools to help children calm and prepare to learn. I have found them to be very helpful with children with ADHD and I know several teachers that start their day off with a few of these!

These simple exercises are based on the copyrighted work of Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D., and Gail E. Dennison. Brain Gym is a registered trademark of Brain Gym® International

Brain Gym is based on three simple principles:

  • Learning is a pleasant and natural activity which goes on throughout our whole lives

  • Learning blocks are caused by the student incapacity of coping with anxiety/stress derived by a task which is perceived as “too difficult”

  • We are all more or less blocked as far as learning is concerned since we have all learned not to move.

Here is a list of 15 different brain gym exercises (there are 26 in all): Brain Gym

  1. I LOVE brain gym! One of my grad school professors introduced it to me. I use it daily in my 1st grade class and pair it with an affirmation.
