Assessing and Building Attachment

attachment

So, we all know that attachment is important and most of us are aware of the different types of attachment (secure, anxious-preoccupied, dismissant-avoidant, fearful-avoidant). I don’t know about you, but although I KNOW the attachment styles and I KNOW they are important, I don’t always think to assess or purposefully identify which style my child:parent client has. HERE is a quiz that you can have parents or couples take to assess their attachment style: http://www.web-research-design.net/cgi-bin/crq/crq.pl

If you determine there is an unhealthly attachment type, then its time to break out PLAY and work on it!

Here are 15 Games that Encourage Attachment and 5 Attachment Activities

Many of these activities are also ones you would find in Theraplay (which I LOVE).

As far as “You-Work” (ie homework) for parents, after you teach them how to do it (you would be surprised how many of them don’t know HOW to play) then you can download an explanatory printable HERE and have them chose one activity each day/week to practice at home.

Do you have a go-to attachment related resource, if so, I would LOVE to hear about it!
